Robert Gillow began making cabinet furniture in 1731 after an apprenticeship as a joiner and cabinetmaker. His two sons joined him in the business and they expanded to London where the quality and fine work of their furniture earned them the reputation of the best cabinet makers of their time both for their innovations and designs and for their superior cabinet work. They often made and designed upholstered chairs, and employed their own upholsterers and cabinetmakers. William Barrow junior and John Barrow were the sons of William Barrow senior who is recorded as working as a cabinetmaker for Gillows in the 1730s and by 1830 both sons are also listed as working for Gillows as cabinetmakers . William Barrow junior became a freeman in 1837 and left Gillows prior to 1840.This chair is offered with our restoration and reupholstery service included (excluding the fabric supply)Reupholstery Service
We are furniture re-upholsterers and have an in-house workshop. Due to the nature of antique and vintage furniture, we nearly always find some minor repairs that need to be addressed on the structure of each piece so we will not sell our items without our full restoration service.

Depending upon our work schedule at the time, we would expect this item of furniture to be ready for collection between 4-6 weeks from the receipt of the upholstery fabric.
Collection and delivery of the item is included in the selling price. This price is for addresses in England and Wales only. We have arranged deliveries to Scotland, Ireland and further afield however there will be a cost addition for these locations.We use a courier service called delivery 4toyou. The items will be wrapped by us prior to collection to protect them during transit. The courier will collect the items from our premises and deliveries will be scheduled during the week of collection. Deliveries north of Birmingham will be scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. South of Birmingham will be Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Our courier will always endeavor to deliver your item between 5-7 days from the collection date.
ReturnsWe do not accept returns on our bespoke upholstery commissions. Upon completion of the works we will send you photos from every angle for you to approve / not approve the work. Any modifications required will be done for further approval prior to shipping of the furniture.
